Khadijah Queen was born near Detroit and raised in Southern California. A Cave Canem Fellow, she holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles. Her first poetry collection is
Conduit, published in 2008 under the Black Goat imprint at Akashic Books. Individual poems appear in numerous
journals and anthologies, with work forthcoming in
jubilat and
InPosse Review. A chapbook,
No Isla Encanta (2007), is available from dancing girl press. Her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize three times.
Khadijah has performed and exhibited at venues around the country, including Poetry@TECH at Georgia Institute of Technology, Beyond Baroque in Venice, CA; Eyedrum alternative art space in Atlanta; and Macaulay Honors College (CUNY) in New York City, where she curates an annual multicultural/multi-genre reading series,
Courting Risk. A video and sound piece,
Gibberish, was screened at the Seattle Art Museum. Recently she finished a second full-length poetry collection and is presently working on a third.
